Bluegrass Allstars

John Kane is regarded as one of the pioneers of bluegrass flat picking guitar and mandolin in Australia. He has been an integral part of the bluegrass scene since the mid 70’s when he teamed up with Australia’s first National Bluegrass Champion Chris Duffy.

He has toured and recorded with international bluegrass greats Tony Trischka, Jody Stecher, Byron Berline, Dan Crary, John Hickman, Vince Gill, David Bromberg and even jammed in Byron’s studio with the father of Bluegrass himself, Bill Monroe.

With his band the Flying Emus, John was awarded six Golden Guitars and an ARIA, and in 2011 John and banjo great Ian Simpson won another Golden Guitar for The Banjo album.

Currently, John spends most of his time behind the scenes working as a screen composer, songwriter and music producer, but he will jump at the opportunity to put together an Allstar Bluegrass line-up.

In the 90’s it was the legendary Bundy Allstars featuring Gerry Hale, Ian Simpson, Mike Kerin, and James Gillard; fast forward to 2011 and it was a one off Sydney gig featuring Ian Simpson, Mike Kerin, Michael Vidale, Genni Kane, Anne Kirkpatrick, Dan Kerin and more.

This year it will be the CMC Rocks the Hunter Bluegrass Allstars featuring ….we’ll keep you posted!
