Gretchen-Wilson-Promo-

We’re literally already holding on to our hats (well not literally, but you get the idea) in preparation for when Gretchen Wilson hits the stage at this year’s CMC Rocks The Hunter festival.

Renowned for being one of the rowdiest, most energetic, best live performers in country music, we’re more than looking to being blown away when she makes her first appearance at CMC Rocks.

We caught up with Gretchen for another edition of AAA to find out a little more about one of our big name acts of 2014:

1) What are you most looking forward to doing when you are in Australia?

I did a promo tour and a concert tour in Australia and loved the people. We were mostly in major cities, so I didn’t get to see much of the countryside. I’m really looking forward to getting back there to play for everyone.

2) What is the first album you ever bought?

Led Zeppelin – IV

3) Do you have an all time favourite album and if so, what is it?

I don’t think I could single out just one favorite album. My musical taste varies so much that I would have to pick one from every genre.

4) Is there a song you wish you had written/performed?

I kind of got to do that with our Under The Covers album. I grew up playing country and classic rock, and one of my longtime dreams was to cut an album of classic rock songs. Each song on the album would be one I might mention when answering your question. We play a classic rock medley every night on stage, so I get the best of both worlds.

5) Is there an artist you are most looking forward to seeing at CMC Rocks the Hunter 2014?

I understand CMC Rocks the Hunter is a huge festival, so I’m going to have to check out the lineup again. I really enjoy checking out local acts wherever I play to get a feel for what new artists are doing and what the local fans are into.

6) If you weren’t a musician/artist, what would you be?

I always thought that teaching music would be a good back up plan. That’s why I went back to school and earned my GED, just in case I ever have the opportunity to do that!

7) How do you relax after coming off the road?

After a show, I like to wind down on my bus and visit with friends and fans. This may sound crazy, but when I get home from the road the best way for me to relax is to clean my house! It’s just one of my “things.”

8) What is your favourite food?

When I’m on the road, my go-to food is McDonalds! I always know what I’m getting there. I also love Mexican food with a good margarita.

9) Artist/s to watch in this next year?

I haven’t been too impressed with new country for a very long time. However, artists like Kasey Musgraves seem to be pushing the edge a little bit and are making me think there might still be hope!

Access All Areas: Morgan Evans

Studio-223Final-440x293

Rising local star Morgan Evans has become a CMC Rocks The Hunter favourite over the years – and it doesn’t look like his popularity will be slowing down any time soon.

Morgan is set to release his debut, self-titled album on March 14 aka Friday of this year’s festival, so we grabbed Morgs for our latest round of our ongoing series AAA.

1) What is the first album you ever bought?

I think the first album I bought with my own money was actually a cassette tape of Garth Brooks’ Fresh Horses.

2) Do you have an all-time favourite album and if so, what is it?

I can’t nominate one favourite album but there are a few VERY important ones that came along at the right time and really impacted my life -
Golden Road – Keith Urban, Shake Your Money Maker – Black Crowes, Born To Run – Bruce Springsteen.

3) Is there a song you wish you had written and recorded?

‘The Cape’ – Guy Clark … I gave up wishing and recorded it with Kasey Chambers. Last track on my new album.

4) Is there an artist you are most looking forward to seeing at CMC Rocks the Hunter 2014?

Paul Thorn, The Greencards, Jedd Hughes, Eli Young Band … there are quite a few.  Plus all the big names of course – and the two afternoon Songwriter Shows.

5) If you weren’t a musician/artist, what would you be?

That’s like asking me if you couldn’t breathe, what would you do?

6) How do you relax after coming off the road?

Surfing, Mountain Biking, Writing Songs and catching up with family and good friends.

7) What is your favourite food?

It’s pretty hard to beat a good Aussie mango!

8) Artist/s to watch in this upcoming year?

Ashleigh Dallas, Adam Eckersley Band.

Catch Morgan on the at 7.45pm on the Main Stage at this year’s CMC Rocks The Hunter Festival.

Access All Areas with Eli Young Band

Eli Young Band - Promo #002 - 2013

They were here just a couple of years ago, but the Eli Young Band are ready and raring to play CMC Rocks The Hunter again in 2014.

We spoke with the band’s bassist Jon Jones about what he’s looking forward to when they return to Oz, and how they’re going to show Toby Keith the ropes on his first trip Down Under.

1) What are you most looking forward to doing when you return to Australia for this Tour?

Just enjoy it. I think last time we were trying to do everything touristy, you know pet a kangaroo, take a picture with a koala, all that stuff. But I think this time we can just slow down and just enjoy the landscape a little more. We had a great time at CMC. The wine was great. Hopefully we can meet some more fans because we didn’t have as much of an opportunity to do that as we’d like.

2) What is the first album you ever bought?

Paul Simon, Graceland. It’s still one of my favourites.

3) Do you have an all time favourite album and if so, what is it?

Beatles, Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

4) Is there a song you wish you had written?

This is not an artistic song, but ‘Happy Birthday’. That’s a song you still have to pay royalties on and I think that’s made more money than any song in the history of publishing. Plus, everybody knows happy birthday. It’s hard to beat that when you think about how it’s a part of the cultural landscape.

5) Is there an artist you are most looking forward to seeing at CMC Rocks the Hunter 2014?

All the Australian aritsts because we don’t get that over here. But as far as people coming with us, Toby Keith, who we’ve only played a handful of shows with but it’s been fun every time. And Kellie Pickler. We’re playing a handful of shows with them. It will be fun to share this experience because they’ve never been down there before. Toby Keith is a real pro, but we’re kind of the ones who can show him the ropes Down Under.

6) If you weren’t a musician/artist, what would you be?

A struggling musician or artist.

7) How do you relax after coming off the road?

No. I have a one-year-old son, so there’s no time for that. But I enjoy just being a dad again. It’s not relaxing, necessarily, but I really enjoy that.

8) What is your favourite food?

Indian food.

9) Artist or artists to watch in this upcoming year?

There was an artist that I wrote down last night – Lake Street Dive. You might hear of them in the next couple of years. They’re four kids that were in jazz school together, in college. They seem incredibly talented – two guys and two girls just full of energy. It’s kind of eclectic rock and roll and I just heard for the first time last night and their first album hasn’t quite come out yet. So that’s who my money’s on today.

Performing at both shows and acting as Master of Ceremonies will be Jim Lauderdale (USA). The two-time Grammy winning Americana legend has penned hits for artists as diverse as George Strait, Elvis Costello, Dixie Chicks, Gary Allan and Patty Loveless.

On Saturday 15 March from 1pm to 3pm, Jim will be joined by Craig Campbell (USA), Paul Thorn (USA), Jedd Hughes and Mike Carr.

On Sunday 16 March  from 2pm to 4pm, Jim will be joined by Stephen Barker Liles and Eric Gunderson from Love and Theft (USA)Kevin Bennett and Catherine Britt.
